Sorry I don't have UR solution, but I do know how chroming is done :/
In my early years in an industral school in Argentina we've done chroming on metal pieces we welded ourselves.
It's just a liquid which U dip into, nothing else... just need some sulfuric acid if the surface is not clean.
There might be other ways, but that's the typical way of chroming.
